Santorini, Greece Yachting Visitors Guide
Santorini, Greece Yachting Visitors Itinerary Planning Guide
Santorini is one of the most beautiful and unique islands in the world, showcasing the very best of Greece with whitewashed houses, striking black sandy beaches and ancient vineyards. Following one of the largest volcanic eruptions from several millennia ago, much of modern day Santorini was built upon the crescent-shaped crater… the bubbling volcanic remains can still be seen from the cliffs today!
Set sail from Athens, where most charters start, to explore Santorini and the Cyclades. Intriguing history, awesome volcanic landscape, cosmopolitan atmosphere, breathtaking sunsets and deep blue sea are just some of the reasons that contribute to Santorini's marvel, as one of the most iconic Greek destinations that people know.
The capital of Santorini, Fira, is not only utterly beautiful but is also a historically fascinating town to visit. By day, tip toe down narrow footpaths to find and explore blue domed churches, galleries and an archaeological museum with ancient Minoan artefacts. While some say the whole world stops after sunset in Fira, the nightlife scene centres around the popular Erythroú Stavroú where tourists and locals alike party through to the early hours.
A magical town carved from the caves, Oia is known for its whitewashed Cycladic houses built for Venetian sea captains in the 14th century. Here you can enjoy the quiet life, sip a glass of regional assyrtiko wine, looking out over spectacular views over the volcano. For a fascinating afternoon, head to the Naval Maritime Museum to see seamen’s chests, old maritime equipment and photographs collected to commemorate the Hellenic Navy.
On the southeastern part of the island, sandwiched between the Aegean Sea and Vuono Mountain, you will find the charming town of Kamari. Traditional whitewashed houses create the backdrop to the black sand beach where you can relax all day. With its blue flagged status, Kamari beach remains unspoiled and unique for everyone to enjoy. Stay until the evening to be sure that you don’t miss the magical rock that glows in the dark!
While they might sound like the two ugly sisters, Perissa and Perivolos are the top places to party all night long in Santorini!
When the sun is up, anchor in Perissa to practise your top slalom water skiing tricks on super smooth waters. In the evening, choose from the range of traditional tavernas, bars and clubs that line the black beach. Whether you fancy a couple of cocktails or a dance on the tables, you’re bound to have a cracking night here!
If you fancy a spontaneous day trip to the beach, Perivolos will not disappoint. With plenty of sunbeds, straw umbrellas and crystal clear sea, what’s not to love?! Enjoy a friendly game of beach volley ball and dance the night away with friends along the beach as there’s always something happening in Perivolos!
